According
to information recently received, Mendoza
is being target of the interest of many investors from different
countries whose objective is to develop new businesses in
the center of the Argentinean wine making industry.
One of these undertakings is being carried out in one of the
zones with more strategic value of the province. Its coordination
and implementation was trusted to Grupo Matura
–of Italian origin- who with its Latin America area
achieved the assistance of investors from different latitudes.
The Villa Agrelo Project
Brazilian, Italian and Argentinean investors participate of
this Project, which carries the name of “Proyecto
Villa Agrelo”, and has more than 2,000 ha.
for exploitation.
According to Ramiro Marquesini, General Manager of
Matura Latin America, these lands “have
a strategic location, at 30 kms from the international airport
of Mendoza, in Agrelo. The property has 2 km of front on the
side of Route 40, the most important road of Argentina with
a North-South trajectory of over 5,000 kms”
The parcel of land was selected after an intensive terroir
research which included a comparative study of vineyards from
Tuscany, Italy and Bordeaux,
France.
The research, according to Marquesini, concluded that the
zone “posesses lands with predominance of lime which
limits and favours the production of special and unique grapes”.
“The research helped us confirm great potential
for the development of Premium vineyards, where the exceptional
characteristics of the land, alongside with Mendoza’s
climate and excellent water quality, foresee a great future
for our wines”, states Marquesini.
The Project does not have the sole objective of wine making,
although at first this was the main engine. The idea is to
develop activities that involve the production of premium
extra virgin olive oil, cherry cultivation, rearing of different
animal species such as horses, goats, cows able to adapt to
the province’s desertic features. The Project also includes
proper use of rain water from zones favored by terroir’s
different heights, preservation of native flora as natural
reserve; and research and development of new species. It also
includes the use of concentrated solar thermal systems.
