Spain has The largest
Museum of Wine Culture
The viticultural company Dinastía Vivanco, from Rioja,
sponsors the largest Museum of Wine Culture in the world,
in which there is also a documentation center that keeps books
dating from medieval times. Dinastía Vivanco will make
these documents available online, at the disposal of those
who wish to consult them.

The
documentation
center created by Dinastía Vivanco
has a catalogue that is available on Internet, and soon their
more antique works will be available too.
In all, any user will have access to 8,000 monographs
in several languages, eight incunabula which are being digitalized,
and thousands of photographs and postcards, audio files and
audiovisual documents, numismatic and philatelic collections,
magazines, newspapers, updated articles and news editorials
from the world of wine.
“We could certainly say that is the best private
collection of documents about the culture of wine in the world,”
affirms the director of the Wine Documentary
Center Dinastía Vivanco, Nuria del Río.
Santiago Vivanco, director of the Foundation thinks
of this Documentary Center as “a complement” of
the Dinastía
Vivanco’s Museum, and as “a shelter
of 8,000 years of the excellent relationship between men and
wine,” one more sample of the family motto: “Give
back to wine what wine has given us.”
He
also highlights the fact that this project couldn’t
have developed without the tenaciousness of his father, Pedro
Vivanco, who collected all kinds of valuable objects
related to wine since he was a youth.
Among the works kept in the center are incunabula such as
“Regimen sanitas”, dating from
1493, which describes the benefits of wine
for health, or “De Agricultura Vulgare”,
one of the first treatises on the cultivation of vine that
dates from 1519.

Note of the editors of Diario del Vino: Dinastía
Vivanco gave a boost to a new and modern wine cellar
that means a step forward towards enologic innovation and
quality wine elaboration in Rioja. All the
elaboration processes are developed without any pumping and
with the sole help of gravity. The wine cellar is located
in Briones, privileged enclave in La Rioja Alta, in
the foothills of Sierra de Cantabria, by the Ebro river.
